Celt: (kelt) n. a member of one of the ancient peoples
speaking Celtic. They originated (c. 1500 B.C.) in S.W. Germany and spread (7th c. B.C.)
through France to N.Spain and the British Isles. Successive Celtic invasions reached upper
Italy, Bohemia, Hungary, Illyria (4th c. B.C.), and Asia Minor (3rd c. B.C.). They were
conquered and absorbed by the Romans and the barbarians, until only Brittany and the west
of the British Isles [Ireland] remained Celtic.
